Riders
Riders with Bruges pennants announce the historical part of the procession.
Diederik is welcomed
Red and white are the colours of Bruges’ coat of arms, topped by a blue lion. A group of girls, dressed in these city colours, announce the arrival of Diederik of Alsace and the story of the Second Crusade.
Count Thierry of Alsace and his entourage
Count Thierry of Alsace brings the relic of the Holy Blood with him from the Holy Land in 1150. The count is accompanied by his wife Sibylla of Anjou and abbot Leonius of the Abbey of Saint Bertinus in Saint Omer. They are followed by the count’s son, Philip of Alsace and his wife Mathilde of Portugal.
